Cruise Ship Review - Review of the Royal Caribbean Navigator Of the Seas

The Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas is a member of the Voyager class of cruise ships. A series of cruise ships that feature all the same amenities that most cruise lines do, but also very many extravagant things that no other cruise line can boast

Once you board your first question might be, is this a cruise ship or a work of art? You will find that this cruise ship is a revolutionary masterpiece if ever there was one.

Not only does it sail effortlessly through the waters of the Caribbean, it contains some of the cruise industry's most amazing features - a rock-climbing wall, a basketball court, an ice-skating rink and an in-line skating track. in addition, it has a five-story theater, a casino, a miniature golf course and a spectacular three-story dining room?

Sailing at 138000 gross tons, this ship is among the largest on the water, Of course, the ship's major asset is its mammoth size, which affords all passengers areas for listening to live music, or sharing a quiet conversation. This, just like many ships, has its own library. You may sign out books, however, you may not remove them from the ship. This library, has no specific hours unlike many other ships, rather this is open 24 hours per day. There are many areas such as pool side or the Solarium which are constantly busy, yet they are sufficiently large enough to accommodate those passengers who love aquatic activities and those who just want to relax.

I highly recommend that the adults arrange a night at Portofino's. This is the $20 per person extra charge Italian restaurant. It was an outstanding evening out. And on this evening the dining room staff made sure the children were seated, served and accommodated to their hearts content.

Princess Cruise Lines

Princess Cruise Lines are part of the biggest cruising companies in the world, although they are still probably best known for the TV series "The Love Boat" from the 1970s.

Princess Cruise Lines began in 1966 when the "Princess Patricia" was chartered by Stanley MacDonald to undertake cruises from Los Angeles to the Mexican coastline. The ship though had been designed for Arctic cruising, and came without any of the necessary features of an equatorial cruise. The "Princess Patricia" was then replaced by the "Princess Italia" a ship designed for the warmer climes, and was truly modern in every aspect. The "Princess Italia" ended up doing Alaskan and European cruises as well. A third ship, the "Princess Carla", was quickly added to the growing company.

Princess Cruise Lines was going from strength to strength and in 1974 the company was purchased by P&O (the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company), who assed the "Sun Princess" to the fleet. The "Island Princess" and "Pacific Princess" were also built new fro P&O, it was on these two cruise liners that "The Love Boat" was set. P&O already had a large fleet and ships would be transferred between brand names, and the "Sea Princess" sailed for both brands from 1978. It wasn't until 1984 that the first ship, the "Royal Princess", was the first liner specifically built for the Princess Cruise Lines Company.

P&O continued to buy other cruise companies and with the purchase of Tour Alaska and Sitmar Line, further ships were acquired and new cruise routes were added to the company. Many ships and routes were added to the Princess Cruise Lines brand. Princess Cruise Lines ended up being separated from P&O in 2000, before Carnival Corporation merged with P&O and all of its separate companies, to incorporate twelve cruising brands.

Princess Cruise Lines is now marketed as Princess Cruises and runs seventeen cruise lines, which include three small ships. All of the liners are designed to provide all of the experiences of a five star hotel, but with what feels like a personal service. Depending on which ship you are on you can expect casinos, theatres and swimming pools. The liners also sail on a wide range of destinations, including world cruises, Alaska, Hawaii, South America, Europe, in fact pretty much anywhere around the world. Cruises from Princess Cruise Lines may not be cheap but they are an unforgettable experience.

Venice After Our Star Princess Cruise

When John Lazzatti and I reached Venice at the end of our Star Princess cruise, the ship sailed majestically up the lagoon past San Marco Square, and was the biggest structure in Venice while it was there. It docked south of the city, and we went back and forth to San Marco on a shuttle vaporetto. We spent the first night in Venice aboard the ship.

For our fist afternoon in Venice while still being housed aboard ship, we quickly found our hotel and headed for Harry's Bar. We had two martinis each served in very small glasses. We tried one straight up and one on the rocks. There's a small bar and a sprinkling of tables in a not very large room. I bought a copy of Arrigo Cipriani's book called "Harry's Bar, The Life and Times of the Legendary Venice Landmark." The book was nineteen Euros and the four drinks were sixty-nine Euros, total $132.00. A later visit with one drink each cost us 56 Euros or $84.

For five nights we stayed at the Best Western Albergo San Marco for 583 Euros (about $874 each). We had separate rooms. The hotel was a few steps away from San Marco Square. In contrast to the breakfast in Rome, the breakfast provided was very basic-no hot food and a very limited amount of other offerings which were undistinguished.

We ate lunches and dinners in small places which were very reasonable. Often the restaurants called themselves pizzerias, but had a full menu of Italian food. House white wine was uniformly good, the breads were delicious, and at lunch we often had tasty pizzas. We never sought out or needed expensive restaurants and were always satisfied by the places we found just roaming around the streets. Most of the help were non-Italians with a number of Bangladeshi in some places.

We wandered alone in various sections of the city, starting around ten and then rejoined each other for lunch at two. Often we'd get lost, but that was the fun of it, getting lost in the maze and labyrinth that is Venice, and making all sorts of serendipitous discoveries: a new church, a beautiful campo, a fish market near the Rialto Bridge, or a coffee shop with tempting pastry. John L. discovered the Coin department store near the Rialto and found some good buys.

We were in Venice from November 8, 2007 to November 14, 2007, and we had, at times, very cold weather, bone-chilling and penetrating dampness at night, but the city made you forget the cold with its beauty and uniqueness. Late October and early November are good times to go because you avoid the huge high season hordes. One piece of advice to the city fathers: stop selling pigeon food in the Piazza San Marco and cut down on those thousands of pigeons. They fly into people, leave droppings, shed feathers, and are a nuisance.

Venice is a magical city of dreams, unreal and ethereal. We'll remember scenes at night along the canals, the Bridge of Sighs, the Bacino, gondolas, the Rialto Bridge, reflections of the sinking houses on the canals, the Grand Canal, colonnades, baroque churches with great art, quiet secret gardens, cloisters, the stone wells that are everywhere, the lion symbols, and the Doge's Palace. We toured the Doge's Palace and actually crossed the Bridge of Sighs and saw the prison cells. Two glorious churches among a hundred are Santi Giovanni e Paolo and La Basilica della Salute (the dome presently covered in scaffolding).

Venice is a drowning city, but its glories live in your memory forever: the library in the San Marco Piazza, the marble statuary, the palazzos, the campos, Carnevale items in stores with scary costumes and masks, magical sunsets, the shimmering city where life is more unique than in any other city in the world. People started sipping espressos at the Caffè Florian in 1720.

We went to the Lido by vaporetto and strolled along the beach in front of the hotel where von Aschenbach pined over the Polish boy of fourteen in Thomas Mann's "Death in Venice."

A bookstore Libreria "Acqua Alta" with used books spread out over two large rooms advertises itself as the most beautiful bookstore in the world. In addition to all the shelves, in one room is a full size gondola loaded with books and in the other room another large boat replete with books.

One day I visited the Vivaldi museum, crossed the Accademia Bridge and went to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. It is housed on the Grand Canal in an unfinished palazzo which is a work of art in itself. In the beautiful sculpture garden Peggy Guggenheim is buried alongside fourteen of her beloved dogs; their stone gives their names and dates. The museum boasts several Jackson Pollock canvases so I bought a tie there with a Pollock motif on it.

An interesting art gallery near her museum is the Bac Art Studio where you may be greeted by the owner's Jack Russell who insists that you toss a ball for him to fetch. You'll get worn out before he does. I stupidly asked the owner if the dog spoke English, and the owner replied that he understood English but didn't speak it. "I don't think dogs in America speak English either," he quipped.

In Venice we discovered the Inishark Irish pub where we met British and Irish tourists. It gave us something to do in the evening since we didn't want to attend operas at La Fenice or string quartets at various venues.

Many years before I had arrived and left Venice by train which is a fairly easy maneuver since vaporetti stop at the railroad station. This time we had arrived in the city by ship, and we were to leave by plane. We wondered how were going to manage this with our heavy bags. On the morning of our departure we ordered a water taxi. A bellman pulled our two big bags behind him and led us across San Marco Square to a water taxi pier right outside of the Hotel Baglioni.

A water taxi docked and our bags were loaded aboard. We sat in a comfortable cabin that could easily hold twenty persons. The boat was a mahogany-like speedboat resembling an old Chris Craft. We zipped up one canal, then another and came out on a big waterway behind Venice. It took us a half hour with the throttle wide open to reach a dock outside the airline terminal. The trip was 100 Euros and we tipped the boatman an additional twenty, for a total of $180.

At the boat landing a sign said that you could wait for the shuttle bus or take a seven minute walk to the terminal entrance under a covered walkway. We walked pulling our wheeled bags behind us. We had seen Rome, enjoyed a cruise on the Star Princess, and feasted on the visual delights of Venice. Now it was time to head home by way of JFK. Ciao, Venezia.

Azalea Festival Behind the Scenes

The set up for the street fair and parade at the 61st North Carolina Azalea Festival 2008. CORRECTION NOTE BELOW. All live persons knew this was going on YouTube and consented to be on camera. In this video you will see some of the streets that are closed down for Saturday and Sundays events. Meet locals and visitors and vendors for the fair. Get a peek behind the scenes while all is quiet and the Friday night crowd had only just started to filter out. You will also see two locations from Dawsons Creek and one from Matlock. You'll meet a UNCW student and out of town visitors. And we all managed to snag a free concert at the end. As luck would have it, when I got close, they started playing blues. How good is my timing. I passed my card on and hope to give them a little of the footage. Lucky & the Blues Buckets is their name. BUCKY NOT LUCKY....BUCKY AND THE BLUES BUCKETS. Sorry guys, you were busy on stage and someone tried to give me your name but it was so loud I heard them wrong. Found you on the web today and corrected it on the details but too late to fix the video. Sorry guys! My band plays this Sunday. We are Michele and the Midnight Blues and we take the stage between 2-4pm. This is free and open to the public show. The stage is near the foot of Princess on the corner facing Water St and the Battle Ship USS North Carolina. I may try to snag some cool footage of that during our gig. I am taking the camera! So, come on down. Tonight I did get some of the stage we ...

Save Plenty of Cash - Grab the Good Vacation Cruise Deals

Cruise vacations are right now recommended as vacations to sought after spots worldwide. The popular theme park and beach destination holidays of the recent past are losing out to this option of getaway, particularly with the older generation.

You'll find some choices which you will need to make before deciding which cruise ship vacation offer is perfect in your case. Which cruise line you're going to travel with is certainly one of the many vital options.

It is trickier than it looks mainly because there are tons of cruise companies to choose from. It's worthwhile to do loads of groundwork before you choose.

You will find several less common cruise lines as well as the common names.

Carnival Cruises do a lot of advertising on the telly and on the net so you might have perhaps noticed them.

They're a household name cruise line and have cruise trips in Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe as well as round North America. They use more than 20 boats and are possibly more appropriate when you're travelling as a family.

The next very popular cruise line is RCI (Royal Canadian International).

They focus on on-board fun-based activities like simulated surfing as their particular marketing factor.

In the less well known group have a look at Windstar Cruises. They're a more compact organization that is perfect if you are searching for that romantic cruise for just the two of you.

The memory of a journey with them lasts eternally in your heart as they specialize in an added bit of service.

Alternative cruise line reviews within this category you should find out more about include Silversea Cruises, the Seaborn Cruise Line and Costa Cruises.

It is possible to check out the pluses and minuses of each organization of all the ones that we have referred to at their online site. It is much simpler than seeing a tour operator and looking through a great deal of catalogues.

A number of them have the service to have a virtual tour of each one of the boats. The on-board features of every one will be apparent for you.

Naturally, it's also possible to learn via the usual method of calling them by phone.

It's also possible to get some advice from those that have been with them, on some internet sites independent of the organizations.

The amount a cruise costs also differs from line to line so read the fine print meticulously when you book a cruise.

Whenever you are researching for cruise deals there are various other providers and other options but we anticipate this has provided you with a base to begin at.

Weddings at Sea

A wedding, whether it is your first or fifth, can be the best, and the most stressful, experience of your life. Except, of course, if you choose to tie the knot at sea. When getting married on a cruise ship, you'll have a host of professionals trained to accommodate your every need during your cruise wedding. From cakes to tuxedos, accommodations to the reception hall, you won't have to go off-board for anything. Unless of course you choose to have your reception on shore. In which case, the amenities come to you.

Imagine saying your vows on the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean, on a hillside vineyard in Italy, or on the snowy-white glaciers of Alaska. The possibilities are endless.

There are a few stipulations when getting married on a cruise ship. First, the captain generally does not marry the couple (except with Princess Cruises). A wedding officiant will be provided by the cruise line for that purpose. Second, cruise weddings take place while in port, not while at sea. You can choose to get married on board when in port or at a selected location on shore. Finally, the bride and groom must be sailing on the cruise in order to get married on it. Your guests can, however, board the ship for the wedding without sailing on the cruise.

Many cruise lines provide cruise wedding packages and coordinators to make sure that your day is special and runs smoothly. Carnival Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and Royal Caribbean International, all provide wedding packages for couples sailing on their ships. Crystal Cruises and Cunard Line do not allow weddings on their ships. The cost of tying the knot at sea ranges from $900 to $2,400 and generally includes transportation to and from the port, wedding facilities, wedding officiant, wedding coordinator, ceremony music, flowers for the bride and groom, cake, champagne, photographer, wedding album, and dinner. Many will also arrange spa and hair appointments, as well as tuxedo rentals. Of course, each line has their own packages. Read below for information on the most popular cruise lines and their wedding options.

PLEASE NOTE: Prices provided on this page are general indicators of wedding package costs. They are provided to give a general indication of costs for couples in the early stages of planning their weddings. Stated prices are not guaranteed and do not include taxes.

What You Need to Know About Cruise Attire

People new to cruising tend to get nervous about what kind of cruise attire they need to bring and wear on their vacations. There are many different situations that come up during cruises that require many different types of clothing. It is no wonder that the subject is so confusing. However, there are some guidelines about what to wear.

Dinner Wear

The most important thing to remember about dinner wear is that you will get an itinerary before your cruise that outlines cruise attire. You should know how many nights will be formal nights, smart casual nights, or casual nights. Then, all you have to do is find out what is meant by those terms.

On a casual night, a woman can wear a pant-suit or dress slacks and a blouse. She can alternately wear a skirt and blouse. Men will be fine in a sport shirt and slacks. It is important not to go overboard and wear anything too casual, like cut-offs. On a smart casual night, the women can still wear pant-suits, although they may be a little dressier. They can also wear a dress if they prefer. Men need to wear a jacket along with their shirt and pants, and they may fit in better if they wear a tie.

Formal nights are the times to go all out. Women wear cocktail dresses, or they can even wear long formal gowns. Men have to at least wear dinner jackets and dark suits. If they want to go fancier, they can wear a tuxedo, but it will probably not be required.

There are some situations where you can break all the rules. If there is a poolside snack bar or buffet, you may be able to eat in your swimsuit. If it is a theme night, such as country western night, you can wear clothes that fit the theme.

Day Wear

The cruise attire you wear during the day is fairly easy to figure out. You just need to think about the activities you plan to do. If you plan to go hiking, bring hiking boots. For those who want to walk in the surf, it is good to have a pair of aqua socks. These cover the top of your foot with elastic and the bottom with rubber to protect your feet.

There are certain customs you need to be aware of as well. For instance, in most places, it is considered unacceptable for people to tour historical and government facilities if they are not wearing conservative clothing. Short shorts and skimpy tops will not do. If you are in doubt, contact your cruise coordinator.

If you take everything into consideration, it is not hard to determine what kind of cruise attire to bring with you on your trip. Just use your imagination to think about the kinds of situations that will come up, and pack accordingly.

Top Cruise Secrets Revealed

There are more than 200 cruise ships that you can choose from today. But the one thing that they all have in common is that a little advance planning and "insider" knowledge can help you save time and money on your next cruise. Here are the "top ten tips":

1. Maximum flexibility = Maximum savings. Most travelers have some flexibility in their travel dates, especially if planning ahead of time. Let your cruise specialist know that you can consider alternate departure dates that may have lower rates available. Keep in mind cruise lines will offer better prices and perks on sailings that are not nearing capacity.

Tip: Shoulder or off peak sailings offer the deepest price cuts. For example, the departure right after the New Year cruise might be substantially lower.

2. Ask if guarantees are available. This requires that you have a little gambling spirit. Many cruise lines will offer a rate on a particular cabin category instead of an actual stateroom number and in effect guarantee that rate to you. Then the cruise line has the option of assigning you a stateroom in either that category or better.

Sometimes you win and end up in a cabin several grades higher and sometimes you end up in exactly the category you were guaranteed. Remember, there is both an upside and downside to this program.

Tip: Completely understand the process before booking a guarantee.

3.Upgrade programs. Often, your cruise specialist may offer a cruise line upgrade program. This means that you book and pay for category 'B' and will be moved to a higher category 'A'. Again, there is an element of risk here. The fact that a stateroom may be in a higher category does not always mean it will be a more desirable cabin. For example, you might be in a nice mid ship balcony stateroom on Deck C and get an upgrade to a balcony stateroom on Deck A.

While your new assignment may be the same size and have identical amenities you might end up in a less desirable location such as near an elevator or at the extreme end of the ship. And there are outside cabins that have views partially blocked by lifeboats or other equipment. On the other hand there are many instances of guests being upgraded several categories to wonderful staterooms.

Tip: Advise your cruise specialist that you will consider upgrades offered but you want to have final say on any changes before they happen.

4.Special Fare Eligibility - One of the reasons that savvy cruisers find a knowledgeable cruise specialist and stick with them is the fact that there are many special fare programs that may or not be visible to cruisers doing casual research on the web. These include things like regional fares that are made available to residents of selected states.

Caution: If you are offered a regional fare and you don't live in that area and can not prove residency, don't do it. Cruise lines have the right to check your eligibility on sailing day and charge for the difference before you board. It does happen. Some of the other special fares being promoted today include active duty and retired military fares, union member fares, police and public safety discounts, airline or hospitality rates and more.

Tip: If your cruise partner is a member of any of the these groups, the discounts usually apply to everyone traveling in the same stateroom.

5. Past Passenger Specials - Virtually every major cruise line has a loyalty club for its members with different levels and benefits. Joining is free and entitles you to special perks and discounts when you book on that line. For many commonly owned cruise lines such as Carnival Corporation, the offers extend across all the brands such as Carnival, Princess, Holland America etc. Ditto for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.

Tip: Many cruise lines started operation before computers become common and can not easily retrieve date for cruises you may have taken several years ago. However, if you send a letter to the cruise line listing the ships and cruises you have been on, most will take your word and credit you with those unrecorded sailings. This might have the effect of moving you from Gold to Platinum level and significantly improve the benefits.

6. Check for Group Rates: Many cruise agencies hold what is known as block space on ships. That means that they have reserved space at group rates, which can be up to 20% lower than individual rates. Many agencies that reserve space for groups hold aside several cabins for individual clients who might be able to depart on this date.

While you may be traveling as a group, your cruise experience will be as an individual traveler. The downside might be that your dining time or section is affected by the group program. The upside is that you might benefit from some group amenties such as an onboard credit, free shore excursion etc.

Tip: If your cruise specialist offers group rates, understand the features, benefits and limitations completely before you book. From the cruise line perspective you are a member of the group and fall under the policies and procedures for groups.

7. On board re-booking. Most cruise lines now allow you to book your next cruise with that line while on board. They may have what is known as an on board sales consultant or even a desk. This is usually a great opportunity to save. Generally, the cruise line will throw in some strong perks to retain your loyalty to their brand. Onboard credits on the future cruise can be quite substantial. Upgrades and other benefits are usually significant.

Tip: Many cruise lines realize that you may not be sure when and where you want to cruise while on your current voyage. Not to worry, because most have a program where you can book on board with the flexibility to change to other sailings and ships via your cruise specialist when you get home and keep all the benefits. This is a truly a win win for you!

8.Seek out Value Adds. Over the past few years, cruise lines have instituted something known in the trade as The Level Playing Field. This was instituted to attempt to control the rampant rebating and discounting that occurred in the post September 11 travel slump. Basically, now the cruise lines have been partially successful in putting the genie back in the bottle by requiring cruise agents to all use the same pricing feeds.

Because cruise agents do not purchase and re-sell the cruises but are paid a commission, the cruise lines themselves totally control published rates. One of the unintended side effects of Level Playing Field pricing is that the cruise lines had to find a way to promote challenged sailing dates. And they did this by creating Value Added features. They can include benefits ranging from dollars off certificates, on-board credits, pre-paid gratuities, free spa treatments, specialty dining experiences, casino credits to a free bathrobe or camera.

Tip: Ask your cruise specialist to seek out sailings that offer value adds. They can significantly impact your bottom line.

9.Arrange your own airline tickets. If you need to fly in to your embarkation port most cruise lines have flight programs known as Air/Sea arrangements. The good news is that includes the flights and often meet and greet and transfers. The bad news is that in order to publish these add-ons the cruise lines have negotiated the fares far in advance and try to set the rates on a cost average basis.

To you, it generally means that these add-ons may be up to 50% higher than the fares you can get by arranging the flights yourself. The one exception to this in many cases are Europe cruises where many lines maintain bulk contract fares. So it is always a good idea to comparison shop. Most lines allow you to purchase just the transfer package so you are able to create your own air/sea package at significant savings. And of course if you have several thousand airline miles collecting dust, this might be a good time to try to use them.

Tip: If you are arranging your own flights, make sure to allow plenty of time for flight delays etc. Savvy cruisers will often invest in a pre-cruise hotel the night before the cruise so that they can avoid the stress caused by late arriving flights. Remember, if the airline leaves you on the tarmac for 7 hours and you miss the ship, that voucher for a free flight will not seem very appealing. And unfortunately, the airline will not compensate you nor will the cruise line refund your money as you are counted as a no show.

10. Travel Insurance: What is the one thing you must bring on your cruise that you hope never to use? Trip Insurance! As you can see in #9 above things can and do go wrong. An affordable comprehensive trip insurance policy can cover many of these contingencies including, lost baggage, trip interruption, medical evacuation and more.

Your cruise specialist can explain the various programs available as there are several. Mark sure you understand fully the coverage and limitation before accepting coverage and keep in mind that you can not get coverage retroactively. It is a small, but absolutely vital part of your vacation expenditures. Keep in mind very few medical insurance polices cover you while out of the country and basic homeowner policies often do not compensate for lost luggage or other events. Just as in land based trips, the carriers responsibility to you is extremely limited by their contract and should a medical emergency arise on board or ashore you are responsible for all expenses incurred.

Tip: Cancellation coverage is very specific. Understand what is covered and not covered. You can not decide not to go at the last minute without incurring substantial cancellation charges. And if you have any pre-existing health issues, this may or may not be a covered event. That is why it is important to actually read the coverage.

Celebrity Cruise Alaska - Pros and Cons

With a premium fleet that's among the youngest and best designed in the cruise industry, Celebrity Cruise Alaska offers a great product: a classy, tasteful, and luxurious cruise experience at a moderate price.

Celebrity Cruise Alaska Pros

o Spectacular spas and gyms. Beautiful to look at and well stocked, the spas and gyms on the Infinity, Mercury, and Summit (and Celebrity's other non-Alaska megaships) are among the best at sea today.
o Fabulous food. Celebrity's cuisine is tops among mainstream cruise lines.
o Innovative everything. Celebrity's entertainment, art, cigar bars, service, spas, and cuisine are some of the most innovative in the industry. Its ships were among the first in the industry to display major art collections on board, it had one of the earliest cigar bars, and its menus have long recognized the need for vegetarian, low-sodium, heart-conscious, and other dishes.

Celebrity Cruise Alaska Cons

o Occasional crowding. Pack a couple thousand people onto a ship (pretty much any ship), and you'll get crowds sometimes, such as at buffets and when debarking.

Each of the Celebrity ships is spacious, glamorous, and comfortable, mixing sleekly modern and vaguely Art Deco styles and throwing in an astoundingly cutting-edge art collection. The line's genteel service is exceptional: Staff members are exceedingly polite and professional, and contribute greatly to the elegant atmosphere. Dining-wise, Celebrity shines, offering innovative cuisine that's a cut above the fare offered by all the other mainstream lines.

The AquaSpas on the line's mega ships are the best at sea, the art collections fleet wide are the most compelling, the cigar bars are the plushest, and the onboard activities are among the most varied. Like all the big ship lines, Celebrity Cruise Alaska offers lots for its passengers to do, but its focus on mellower pursuits and innovative programming sets it apart.

It's interesting to note that this year Celebrity (and its affiliate company, Royal Caribbean International) are using a brand new port, Icy Strait Point. The port, little more than a cannery dock to be honest, lies between Juneau and Glacier Bay and offers a prime vantage point for whale and wildlife watching and easier access to the Alaskan wilderness. A small Indian village about a mile away will be included on shore excursions.

Why add the stop at all? Simply because a growing number of Alaska passengers have begun to outgrow the historic ports of call. A "been there done that" attitude among past guests has made it essential that cruise lines find new ways to stimulate public interest in the destination. Hence, Icy Strait Point. It will never make passengers forget the bustling streets and stores of, say, Juneau or Ketchikan, but the lines are hoping that the combination of hitherto pretty much unseen (at least by cruise passengers) wilderness and exposure to a real Indian village experience will make it a memorable stop.

Repositioning Cruises Aboard the Dawn, Diamond, Gold, and Grand Princess

Dawn Princess repositioning cruises.

One of Princess Cruise Lines Sun-class vessels, Dawn Princess is small by Princess standards with 1,950 passengers. With popular features like LED Movies under the Stars, a Champagne and Caviar bar, a promenade deck with steamer chairs, and an adults-only Sanctuary, it's a favorite of past passengers.

For most of 2010, Dawn Princess will sail roundtrip from Sydney or Melbourne, calling at ports in New Zealand and Australia. She has just one repositioning cruises in 2010, leaving Sydney on November 7, and calling at Tasmania before disembarking passengers in Melbourne.

If you're flying roundtrip from Sydney, it's a nice way to add Tasmania to your itinerary because it's not hard to get from Melbourne back to Sydney.

Diamond Princess repositioning cruises.

Diamond Princess uses the latest technology to keep its 2,670 passengers entertained. There are 42 LCD video screens in the show lounge, giving everyone the best seat in the house. A golf simulator lets duffers play some of the world's great courses virtually. And the Internet café has 29 stations. When you're ready for some fresh air, try the balcony off the Skywalker Lounge. It has great views.

She offers some of the most exotic of all Princess cruises in Australia and Asia during the winter, then summers in Alaska. There are many places you embark or disembark between February and March, and then again between October and December, so you can almost create your own repositioning cruise.

She sails from Beijing on April 30, 2010 and visits Dalian and Qingdao in China, Pusan in South Korea, and Vladivostok in Russian. She arrives in Whittier, Alaska after a while at sea, and then calls at Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan. The cruise ends in Vancouver, British Columbia.

On September 1, 2010, she returns to Asia, operating the Beijing to Vancouver voyage in reverse.

She sails from Bangkok on December 5, 2010 and visits Vietnam, Singapore, and Padang Bay before arriving in Australia, where she calls at Darwin, Port Douglas and Airlie Beach. Passengers can disembark in Sydney, or stay onboard until Diamond Princess arrives in Auckland nine days later. This is a wonderful opportunity to see lots of places in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Golden Princess Repositioning cruises.

Golden Princess is a Grand Class ship with over 700 balcony cabins. It's a good choice for families because there are programs and areas dedicated to kids and teens. And adults have an exclusive Sanctuary spa just for them, as well as nine whirlpools, a Lotus Spa, fitness center, and three show rooms. Sabatini's Italian restaurant and the Painted Desert provide alternatives to the main dining rooms. And the 330-square-foot Movies under the Stars LED screen in the pool area is very popular.

In late spring, Golden Princess repositioning for the Alaska season, leaving Los Angeles on May 9, 2010. She overnights at Catalina Island, and calls at San Francisco and Victoria before ending the voyage in Vancouver. It's a nice getaway up the west coast and very affordable.

In early fall, she returns to Los Angeles, leaving Vancouver on September 26. With two days at sea, passengers have time to relax and enjoy all that Golden Princess has to offer,

Grand Princess Repositioning cruises.

We first went aboard Grand Princess in Barcelona in 1998, the year she launched. Because she was the biggest cruise ship in the world at that time, she caused quite a stir. We cruised on her again in 2008 and she hasn't lost any of her appeal.

Once you're aboard, it's hard to believe that she carries 2,600 passengers because there are lots of quiet spaces where you can get away from it all. If you want to read a good book, enjoy a cappuccino, or just watch the sea, there are plenty of nooks and crannies available.

In early April, she repositions to spend the summer in Europe. She leaves Fort Lauderdale on April 9 and calls at Bermuda after two days at sea. After a day exploring Bermuda, she spends six days on the transatlantic crossing. After the crossing, she visits Glasgow, Dublin, Cork, Cornwall, and Le Havre. The voyage ends in Southampton. Travelers with more time available can stay aboard and explore Seville, Sardinia, Rome, Florence (Livorno), Cannes, Barcelona, and Gibraltar before returning to Southampton.

At the end of the summer season, she leaves Europe to return to the United States. On September 25, 2010 she sails from Southampton and calls at Bergen, the Shetland Islands, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Nova Scotia before disembarking passengers in Fort Lauderdale. This voyage includes lots of off-the-beaten path destinations that you wouldn't visit any other way. It's a great choice for those who want to go somewhere different. And with ten days at sea, it's relaxing too.

Alaska Cruises - Big Ship VS Small Ship

After choosing your route, picking the right ship warranty is the number one factor when you get the vacation you are looking for. Cruise ship in Alaska range from small adventure ships to resort mega ships, the cruise experience varying degrees according to the type of vessel you select each. There are casual cruises and luxury cruises, educational cruises, where you attend lectures and cruises, where you take musical contributions, experience-based cruises, whereHiking, kayaking and exploring remote areas are the main activities and resort cruises, where aqua-therapy and mud baths are the order of the day.

You have to decide what to do in total cruise you want. Itinerary and the type of cruise are even more important than price. After all, what kind of business is a party cruise if what you are looking for is a quiet time? Your imagination can leave someone else nightmare, and vice versa.

Unlike in the Caribbean, which usuallyattracts people looking to relax in the sun, people who want to spend all their time diving and snorkeling, and people who want to celebrate until the cows come home, visitors to Alaska often have all a different objective: to Alaska glacier experience, forests, wildlife and other natural wonders. The cruise lines would all agree, so that almost any desired option allows you opportunities to see what you come. The main question is, how you want to see these sights.Do you want to be on the water line, see how they ship from the deck of an adventure, or do it from a warm living room to see or, better yet, from your own private veranda?

Big ships in Alaska vary in size and scope and include everything from a classic cruise ship really, really big and really new mega ships. They all offer a comfortable cruising experience with virtual armies of the service staff will monitor your well-being and boat stabilizersEnsuring fast.

may keep the size of these vessels Alaska wildlife at a distance (you'll probably need binoculars to see the whales), but they offer plenty of deck space and comfortable chairs to sit, how to drink take in the magnificent mountain and glacier views and a coffee or cocoa. Because of their deeper draft, the big ships are not as close to the attractions like the smaller ships, and they can not visit the pristine fjords, bays and narrows. However, the strongerEngines on these ships do allow them to travel to visit more ports while each - generally popular ports where the ship may be one more, and places to shop for souvenirs is a main attraction. Some of the less massive ships of this class may also visit other ports, typically away from the tourist crowds.

Regardless of the port size, large-ship cruise lines set the value very much on shore excursions, which can more precisely, you explore different aspectsAlaska - Nature, culture of indigenous people, and so on. Disperse passengers, different locales for these flights, the bank is a must. Get off at 2,000 passengers on a small Alaska town goes, much of the atmosphere from the window - especially on busy days, when several ships in port, there are actually more cruise passengers on the ground as locals. Because of the number of people involved can be a lengthy process disembarkation.

Carry more than 2,000 passengers, the flights mega ships and feellike floating resorts. Big on gloss, they offer many activities attracting many families (and particularly in Alaska, many seniors), offer many public spaces (including fancy casinos and fully equipped health clubs) and offer a variety of meal and entertainment, and although they usually be one or two formal nights per trip, the atmosphere is generally relaxed. The Alaska ships of Carnival, Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean fleet all fit into this category, as well asmost of the vessels in Alaska, Holland America and Norwegian fleets.

Just as large cruise ships are mainly for people who are anywhere convenience, small or alternative vessels are best for people who have an uncomplicated and quantity free cruise experience the passengers a chance to close with nature in Alaska and prefer suited want wildlife .

Thanks to their small size of these vessels, the implementation can go less than 150 passengers places that larger ships can not, asnarrow fjords, uninhabited islands, and smaller ports to small fishing vessels usually right. Because of their shallow draft (the amount of the ship below the waterline), they can nose to steep cliffs, bird colonies, bouncing icebergs and waterfalls that you can literally touch and reach. The sea animals are not as intimidated by these ships, you may be wondering with a rather close encounter with a humpback whale or other marine mammals observed in paddlesthe ship's wake. The decks on these vessels are closer to the waterline, and the passengers an intimate view than from the high decks of the big cruise ships. to stop some of these vessels in the ports on a daily basis, as the larger ships, and avoid some ports almost entirely to research natural areas instead. You also have the flexibility to change their routes will create opportunities to - say, go where whales were sighted, and to stay as soon as a sighting's beenmade.

The alternative ship experience is with a sense of adventure, although usually in a soft adventure, instead of a robust nature and offers a generally casual cruise experience: There is no dress-up nights, the food is produced and not easy and because there are so few public spaces available - usually just one or two small lounges - tend to quickly develop camaraderie between the passengers on board those ships and larger ships, which can be as anonymoussuch a great city. Cabins on these ships generally do not offer television or phones, and tend to be very small, and in some cases downright spartan. Meals are (ie are not assigned seats) are usually in a single open seating served, and dress codes are generally not available.

None of these ships offer exercise and wellness facilities such as ships you see on the large - Exercise your best bet is usually a brisk stroll around the deck after dinner - but can compensate for ship by more active off-Such as hiking, fishing, crab or kayak (on three of the Glacier Bay Tours and Cruises ships, stern-launch platforms allow you to actually ship the right of the kayak). The alternative vessels are also more likely to feature expert lectures on Alaska-specific topics such as marine biology, history, native culture and other intellectual pursuits.

There are no stabilizers on most of these smaller vessels, and the bumpy ride may open water - which is not much of aProblem Inside Passage route, since most of the cruising area is protected from ocean waves. They are difficult even for travelers with disabilities, as only three (Cruise West Spirit of '98 and Spirit of Oceanus Clipper and Clipper Odyssey) lifts. And the alternative shipping companies do not offer specific activities or facilities for children, although these ships are a few families of a few.

Golden Princess Southern Caribbean Cruise Review - Overview

Our recent cruise aboard the Princess Cruise Lines ship "Golden. Our travel program of the tropical southern Caribbean. This overview is an article in a series of our Golden Princess Southern Caribbean cruise review. Let me first explain why this particular cruise decided to start.

We had to celebrate a special birthday. This celebration was for our children (in their mid to late 20s) and our parents (to 85 yearsold). We wanted a shipping company that make the activity fit needs of our children, yet elegant enough to be pleasant to our parents.

Princess Cruise Lines seemed to fit a natural. The date for our trip was something solid that the birth had to be among the cruise dates. Our preference to a Southern Caribbean Cruise, Aruba, St. Thomas and St. Kitts was taking charge. It just so happens that the beautiful Princess sailed that GoldenRound trip on the dates requested.

Our trip went from the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It meant quite a long flight with a stopover in San Juan to achieve. The flight segments were very smooth and uneventful. From the airport we had a short bus ride to the cruise terminal.

There were the usual line-up to customs and check-in with the princess in the terminal. This seemed to happen quickly enough into account some of the other cruises we haveenjoyed.

The Golden Princess had its inaugural cruise in May 2001. This meant that it is 5 years old at the time of our trip was. After a recent cruise ship that was her age a bit obvious to us but to your Majesty overshadowed her age.

The trip was a very smooth sail to other Caribbean cruises since we compared. With so many stops on a weeklong cruise, the distances between the ports for a leisurely walk usually made.

The stations were all interesting. Some were still rebuilding after hurricane damage. We are usually "beach babies want to enjoy the sun and surf as often as possible, but on this trip we went to a beach only twice and one of those times was directly at the cruise port. Our ports of call included San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Grenada, Isla Margarita, and Aruba.

We took this trip as more "aggressive" in that we were in port so quickly and so often that we never really saw the whole> Ship. Of course we are mad a point to try to see all public spaces, but apparently missed a few.

The weather, although overcast with light rain a few days ago, was great. The mid to high 80's every day, we went on a sunny holiday.

The cabins were we opted for room with balcony. They were all on the same side of the ship with two groups of three attached balconies. That was great. With the doors open between the balcony, we could come together as we are at a cottageor resort.

The birthday celebration was wonderful. Room service delivered vegetables and dip, fruit bowls, trays cheese nachos and dip and drinks at our booth. There was plenty of room on our balcony for the eleven of us sit and enjoy the whole food.

Overall, the cruise ship, this was not the most elegant that we are on, but it has range-range and activities have age required to fit all the amenities of our wide. Certainly, the children sold to cruiseHolidays.

For more detailed reviews on the components of our Golden Princess cruise including the drive to the cruise port, including imports, cabin, food, restaurants, activities and ports of call, check our references Caribbean Cruises card at http://www. a1-discount-cruises.com often.

Cruise Ship Reviews - The Grand Princess

Sometimes a cruise is a cruise is simple, but sometimes you can experience a very memorable vacation. Sailing Ship Princess is such an experience. The Grand Princess is simply the most beautiful ships I have ever sailed. It is visually stunning, and the service is excellent on board this luxury cruise line.

Often there is a noticeable difference in service between various cruise lines. Princess provided a nice combination ofexcellent service and do enough to board the ship. Some ships I have sailed more elegant, others more fun, but the Grand Princess but none have been a great combination of both.

The ship is very well designed and offers many amenities: a comfortable walk, three separate pools, ice bar, a number of reservations only dining rooms and many bars and theaters.

There is much to do aboard a Princess ship. TheBroadway-style shows performed every night of our cruise and featured comedian, not one but two separate nights. There are also a lot of fun and games, organized by the cruise directors staff.

One of the lesser known benefits to board a cruise ship like this, is that employees are the best of the best. New employees who never before served on board a cruise ship, usually lines of work on board the Carnival or Norwegian Cruise. Princess and Holland AmericaLine are to be in the fortunate position of selecting the best of the best to work on board their ships.

Movies Under the Stars - Ruby Princess - What Happens in Vegas

This is a 2-minute panorama of the Calypso pool on the Ruby Princess, at about 4pm on 11 December 2008 during a week-long Western Caribbean Cruise. The film is set on the 600 sqm Movies Under the Stars screen is What Happens in Vegas, Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher star in "What Happens in Vegas." The quality of the video is not full justice to the good quality of sound on the screen and huge speakers. Unfortunately, the choice of film not the best. On May2008, the New York Times film critic, opened Manohla Dargis with her contribution: "What Happens in Vegas, one of those time junky-wasters that routinely maintain in Pop-up movies, you very much, or not laugh. (Once was enough for me.) But if you know anything about art or ever thought about wondering how the generic of the old B movies look pretty good (they were usually at the center, at the beginning of the), you may wonder how one of the major studios such as 20th Century Fox could slightly rough this releaseManufactured with its graceless setups, unstable lensing and ghastly lighting. It also makes you wonder if executives at the studios look at dailies, much less can hear the poetry of the English language. "Well, at least the popcorn is free during the movies, and special covers at night with head restraints are provided on the chaise lounges, with a blanket if necessary. It is a fun way to spend some time if you do nothing else on to find the ship.

Princesses and Pirates - Opera Vs Gilbert and Sullivan

I was Shop-Vac-Ing my "Princess Cat Parlour" - I'll explain what that is short - when "I heard a" thwop from the following bagpipey noise that indicates, "In four hours the ship blows, Captain." I turned the vac on and off the plug into the middle found the tail - where two lengths are connected. I separated them and "plip", has fallen out ... a dead mouse. A rather well-fed dead mouse.

I think it has died from old age.

You may be wondering how a mouse die of old ageif he lives in a room full of cats. Let me explain. I volunteer for the area pounds and I have to bring more home-grown cats to promote (and often at fixed.) Those who are domestic cats - that never more on her offer tootsies out there to touch on the lawn, let alone starting protection their toes and tongue with a dead mouse delicacy - they are the princesses. The princesses have names like "Sweetie Pie" and "Halo". I heat her room to a beautiful 68EURF, they have really comfortable beds and two CBC (classical)plays in the background. You know very well into family homes.

The "Pirates" are the big old smelly cat, or the scrappy lean female cats. All they have is known to sleep under the stars, cleaning, spraying and fighting. The pirates are names like "Jack" and "Growl". I do not think heat of the "Pirates Shipyard" are so warm, because they'll be moving to Real Estate (barn on the farm), where they can to their heart's content Swashbuckle. You only get on the mat, CBC One (Talk Radio to keep), sleepingthey form. (For some reason I can not get "Two" in this space.) But oddly enough, within a week, my queens and kings of the road into the living room, walking my curse become princesses.

And that is why the mouse on chow cat food and die in their sleep got.

How are they on in a position to meander over? It happened by accident. The rooms are side-by-each. The Princess's Parlour has a drop ceiling, the Pirates' Shipyard does not have a ceiling, but the space above the ParlourBlanket was nice and cozy. It had to happen - one day a few of them gathered in the same place and fell through. My husband patched the hole with a board. Then she fell through, just to the left of this point - and my husband that up to patched. And then she fell on the right of first place and my husband said, "What's the point?"

I'm trying to lure the pirates to return to the shipyard. At supper time, I always serve them their first canned. When they hear me open "their" doorsee march with wrangling over who is first out of the Parlour. These cats - male or female - can jump from the floor to one of the holes in the ceiling with just about every prop. The princesses - male or female - can not.

But they do not stay, no way. The minute they licked their coats are clean evacuate to the room and let the Princess' s food. And speaking of evacuating - they only use the litter boxes in the room, never in the yard.

So, why not memake more effort to separate them? First, I'm just encouraging. This is not a permanent situation in any case. Plus it's something quite charming about a cat who decides that s / he change "rather than to fight. Warmth, comfort and classical music have a stronger pull than rain, garbage cans and barking dogs. But the pirates still get out, such as cats Farm accepted - except I will only take it as a place where there is a very warm house and all the food they canto eat.

"And on Saturday afternoon," I say to the new owners, "if you do not mind, please change the radio station in the barn to CBC's Saturday Afternoon at the Opera." This Grimalkin as both the opera and the host Bill Richardson. It seems he is a cat lover. His most recent bio says:

Richardson lives in Vancouver with two small dogs, a medium-sized black cat, and a harp on which he can play a tune. " The tune turns out to be Greensleeves, and the cat is not nearly as mean the bioimplied. "I feel bad about that, 'Richardson on slagging, says the cat. "She must have been ab * tch to the day I wrote it. But for the most part, it's a very nice cat."

Maybe Bill would like Princess is both a pirate and a cat join meaning his / Nice. In this way, it can either fit their moods!
